A newly-made tapered cabinet with old carvings from Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, the carvings are approx. 70-90 years old.

The doors are made of old carvings that used to be part of a wedding bed. On the top half are carvings of little “windows” in different shapes, surrounded by squirrels, grapes & vines, this symbolize the wish for generations of children. It also means endless wealth because the Chinese word for squirrel and count sounds the same, meaning that you have endless money to count. At the bottom are two pairs of couples, one young and one old, this shows the desire of the couple to grow old together. The carvings on these doors are beautiful, and you can still see some of the original colour left especially at the bottom, this really adds character to this piece.

Internally, the height of the shelves are all 43cm each, internal depth is 35cm.
