Olive Green Kitchen Cabinet from Shengzhou, Zhejiang

An old kitchen cabinet from Zhejiang province, specifically Shengzhou city. The unique characteristic of the Shengzhou cabinets are the lattice patterns which are more compact and have more curved lines compared to the others. The small through carvings across the top are magnolia flowers, and the carvings across the bottom of the doors are roosters & goldfish. The original colour of the cabinet was reddish brown, but now repainted to a beautiful semi-matte olive green.
All the doors are slatted to allow air circulation, and gauze were stuck on the inside of the doors to prevent flies from touching the food. The 2 bottom shelves have sliding doors and slatted shelves to store “wet” items so that the moisture can drip down; some believed live poultry were kept in those bottom compartments.
