Old Zhejiang Kitchen Cabinet in Royal Blue (with lights)
This kitchen cabinet originated from Zhejiang province, and is approx. 80-100 years old. This had been repainted to a Royal Blue colour as the original colour was damaged. The carvings on the main doors features bats & fishes, which represents good fortune/ good blessing & abundance respectively.
The doors are slatted to allow air circulation, and gauze was stuck on the inside of the doors to prevent flies from touching the food. The bottom shelf have sliding doors and slatted shelf to store “wet” items so that the moisture can drip down; some believed live poultry was kept in those bottom compartments. The internal shelf heights are (from top to bottom): 24cm, 23.5cm, 36.5cm.
