Restored Vintage Shanghai Camphor Chest (circa 1940s-1960s)

This vintage camphor chest from Shanghai has been fully refurbished. The original thick paint has been stripped away to reveal the beautiful wood grains characteristic of camphor wood.

Each side is made from a single plank of camphor wood (even at the bottom!), allowing the wood grains to flow continuously. The interior is left unfinished to preserve the natural camphor scent, which helps repel moths and silverfish.

The brass hardware has been replaced as the original pieces were incomplete. Visible repair marks on the front and interior show where the original hinges and hardware were located – these are part of the chest’s authentic history.
