Porcelain Fortune Toad (Navy)

The “three-legged toad” or “money toad” is a popular fengshui charm as it’s supposed to beckon wealth & abundance, and it is usually depicted with red eyes and only one hind leg (hence three-legged). When creating this piece, the artist had given it a humorous twist. The title of this sculpture is called “钱孔看人生”, which literally translates to “looking at life through the hole in the Chinese coin”. The toad has one eye shut because it is peeking through the hole of the Chinese coin, the meaning behind it is “looking at life only through the perspective of money”, lamenting the amount of emphasis/importance that our current society places on money.
