This exceptional antique rice scoop from Shanxi province is notably larger than standard rice scoops and features unique designs painted around its sides.
Two sides display the auspicious phrase “财源广进” (cái yuán guǎng jìn), meaning “may your wealth be plentiful”, a traditional blessing for prosperity in business. Another side bears “五谷豐登” (wǔ gǔ fēng dēng), expressing wishes for abundant harvests of all grains, symbolizing a prosperous agricultural year.
The final side features a sun logo alongside the maker’s mark “Fu Yuan Tang” and a significant historical date: the second year of Emperor Xuantong’s reign. Emperor Xuantong is better known as Puyi, China’s last emperor. This dates to 1910, making this rice scoop 115 years old.
