Low Gansu Painted Cabinet

A low Gansu cabinet in its signature vibrant colours. At the centre bottom is a double happiness motif — a telltale sign that this piece was once used in a newlywed’s room. The doors are painted with birds and flowers, and on both ends, these words:

(R) 远看花有色

(L) 近停鸟无声

This inscription originates from a classic Chinese poem describing a landscape painting. Here, it reads as a poetic blessing for the home — the vibrant flowers and peaceful birds symbolising a marriage that remains eternally beautiful and harmonious, untouched by the passing of time or the chaos of the outside world.
