Elmwood “Spring” Bench with Hoof Feet
The proportion of this type of benches allows you to sit comfortably and also allows you to lie down on it to rest. There are a few versions to how this bench got its name, the most recent one was from the Qing dynasty, which says that towards the end of spring time, as the weather gets warmer, it gets hot and uncomfortable to stay inside the house. So people would bring these benches outside to the courtyard or garden to enjoy the cool breeze, and admire the flowers. This one is made of Elmwood and is approx. 80-100 years old. Originating from Zhejiang, it has beautiful original patina which had been retained. The original colour is untouched, and only the wooden joints had been repaired to ensure rigidity.
