Old Kitchen Cabinet
This kitchen cabinet originated from Zhejiang province, and is approx. 100 years old. It has beautiful original colour & patina and its brass handles on the doors are original too.
The carvings on the doors are very well done & delicate, and the four different flowers at the bottom of the doors are (from L-R): cherry blossom, orchid, chrysanthemum & bamboo, symbolizing the four seasons. The wooden carved pieces holding the door hinges feature the cloud design.
All the doors are slatted to allow air circulation, and gauze was stuck on the inside of the doors to prevent flies from touching the food. The 2 rows of bottom shelves have sliding doors and slatted shelves to store “wet” items so that the moisture can drip down; some believed live poultry was kept in those bottom compartments.
