Antique Zhejiang Kitchen Cabinet in Cool Grey

The original colour of these cabinets were usually dark brown or reddish brown, but it had been badly damaged and therefore we had this re-painted in a cool grey colour. All the doors are slatted to allow air circulation, and gauze were stuck on the inside of the doors to prevent flies from touching the food. The 2 bottom shelves have sliding doors and slatted shelves to store “wet” items so that the moisture can drip down; some believed live poultry were kept in those bottom compartments. The lattice pattern on the bottom sliding doors actually form the words “double happiness”!
