Antique Black Painted Shanxi Cabinet

This black lacquered cabinet with painting originated from Shanxi province and is approx. 100 years old. The paintings on the main doors are varied and interesting: there is an incense burner, scrolls, books and a teapot, which are all the favourite activities of a scholar. The presence of different vases and vessels symbolizes the wish for peace. There are also fruits like pomegranate, Buddha’s citron, peaches & grapes, all of which have auspicious meanings.

The various symbols on the bottom section are the eternal knot and longevity symbols.

The paintings on this cabinet are all original, and this has been finished in a semi-matte clear lacquer. The round brass plate on the doors have been replaced.
