Large Painted Chest from Zhejiang

This large painted chest originated from Zhejiang province, and is approx. 60-80 years old. The painting on this chest is in very good original condition so no repairs were done to it. We had given it an overall clear semi-matte lacquer to preserve the painting and the clear lacquer also brought out the colours really nicely. The main painting most likely depicted an opera scene, and the surrounding it there are auspicious fruits and flowers like peaches (longevity), Ruyi clouds (according to your wishes), peony (prosperity), Buddha’s citron (wealth).
